About Ocean Yoga
How Ocean Yoga came to be.
Ocean Yoga began in 2021 as a boutique studio in sunny, year-round warm Hengchun, South Taiwan. Today, we offer retreats, private sessions, specialized practice, sound healing, and partnerships across the country.
Ocean Yoga opened in 2021 as a boutique studio just outside Hengchun's old northern gate, in the warm, year-round south of Taiwan. Built inside a shipping container with a Japanese-inspired minimal interior, the space had room for six mats.
The studio was founded by Taiwanese yoga teacher Jay Lai, who wanted to bring the tropical, slow vibes of Bali and Thailand home to Taiwan. The style was modern, focused on the fitness of the body and the mind while keeping fun and play at the center. Mornings began with vinyasa, evenings with yin, and weekends with beach classes at Nanwan. The occasional Friday brought a beer or wine yoga session.
Locals and travelers practiced side by side, and students returned season after season. Over four years, more than 800 people came through our doors. The studio had a particular feeling. It was quiet, attentive, and taught with care, and that feeling is the thread running through everything we do today.
How Ocean Yoga grew.
In 2025, we closed the Kenting studio.
Four years in one place gave us a strong foundation, and the next chapter asked for something wider, more flexible, and more personal. Today, Ocean Yoga is offered through retreats across Taiwan, private and specialized sessions, sound healing, partnerships with brands and organizations, and a mobile app currently in development.
Ocean Yoga is now a practice across Taiwan, held with the same attention as the studio that came before it.
